I have lived in California, Colorado, North Carolina and now the Lowcountry of South Carolina -- all beautiful places! Given my affinity for warm weather, my favorite places to visit are all a short drive from home. Below are ideas for US Southeast travel -- whether exploring Florida beaches or visiting South Carolina.
The perfect place to spend a day or weekend away. Beaufort is a great place to walk, dine, shop and explore when visiting South Carolina. My favorite activities for newcomers to the town are a carriage ride, walking along the waterfront park, lunch and shopping. If you have a second day in Beaufort, I recommend Hunting Island State Park for a gorgeous beach experience. This is a must-see town to add to your Southeast travel plans. Here's my recent blog post about Beaufort.
Charleston is a much-loved city for great reasons -- incredible history and architecture, beautiful scenery, fantastic restaurants and shops, and friendly people. Nearby beaches, the USS Yorktown, and numerous museums also make it a great destination for families.
Stroll along the Reedy River in downtown Greenville, SC. Just 45 minutes from Clemson University, Greenville is a beautiful city with beautiful tree-lined streets, shops and restaurants. If you love hiking, you are close to gorgeous hiking trails, waterfalls and the mountains. If you haven't been to Greenville yet, be sure to add it to your Southeast travel plans.
Gorgeous beaches, fun places to eat and shop, tons of history and endless activities. Located in the heart of the Lowcountry, the Bluffton/Hilton Head area is also close to Savannah, GA and under two hours from Charleston. This is now a top destination for international and U.S. travelers visiting South Carolina who are looking for white sand beaches and a "non-touristy", Southern atmosphere.
Savannah is probably one of the most overlooked Southern towns, but it is to me one of the most beautiful. The city squares in its historic downtown under a canopy of Oaks draped with Spanish Moss, make it one of the most unique and calming places to visit. If you haven't been to Savannah yet, this is a must-see destination to add to your Southeast travel itinerary.
America's oldest city -- a very unique historic coastal downtown with quaint shops and restaurants. When it's cold up north, this is one of my favorite places to spend time and bring guests visiting South Carolina. A beautiful place for walking along the water and exploring historical and charming streets.
This small town located along the Space Coast has gorgeous beaches, reasonable hotels, close to Kennedy Space Station, eclectic shops and fabulous restaurants, and less than a two-hour drive to Disney World. With its close access to
I-95, this town is well-worth adding to your Southeast U.S. travel itinerary.
